Capture the vessel and the actual service concern
Record vessel identifiers, relevant engine or equipment details, the customer's symptoms and the requested work. Agree on the minimum intake information before automating a draft. An agent should ask for missing details rather than assume a model, part or operating condition.
Turn findings into a reviewable estimate
Organize labor, materials and assumptions so a customer can understand the proposed scope. VCM Service Estimator's published description includes marine service estimating. Validate suggested work and pricing against your own rates and technical findings before the estimate leaves the shop.
Coordinate shop and field handoffs
A shared job record can carry inspection notes, photos, customer decisions and status between the office and the work site. Assess mobile connectivity and access controls. Do not assume offline operation, marina scheduling or parts-system integration unless the selected tool supports it.
Use AI for bounded administrative work
Request triage, note summaries and estimate drafts are candidates for field service AI. Define the review point for outgoing advice, warranty-related documentation and customer commitments. Automating a summary does not establish the cause of a mechanical fault.
Evaluate with representative jobs
Test routine service, incomplete intake and scope changes. Measure whether advisors receive usable information and customers receive clear approvals—not simply how quickly AI generates text.
- Standardize vessel and equipment fields
- Confirm labor and material pricing sources
- Document customer approval
- Verify mobile and integration requirements
